The Lovegood Home
The Lovegood Home is a black-colored cylindrical house on top of a hill with a stream at the base of it, located near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole. It is described as looking like a giant chess rook (otherwise known as a castle).
Front Yard The front yard could be entered by a broken down gate, which Xenophilius often tacks signs to ("Editor of the Quibbler" and "Pick Your own Mistletoe"). From there a path zigzags up to the front door, along both sides of this path a variety of odd plants make up a garden. These plants include Snargaluff, some Gurdyroots, and a bush covered in some orange radish like fruit called Dirigible plums. Two old crab apple trees stood on either side of the front door, bearing berry-sized fruits and white-headed mistletoe, a little Owl with a slightly flattened hawk-like head possibly belonging to the Lovegoods could at times be found perched in these trees. The front door is thick and black, studded with iron nails, with a knocker shaped like an eagle. Kitchen The front door leads into the kitchen, a perfectly circular room, with stove, sinks, and cupboards curved to fit the walls. All of these items are painted in bright primary colours with flowers, insects, and birds all painted by Luna. Being a rather enclosed space, the effect of these paintings is slightly overwhelming. In the centre of the floor is a spiral wrought-iron staircase leading up to the upper levels. Living room and Xenophilius's Workplace The first floor above the kitchen, this room is smaller than the kitchen, though more cluttered, and entirely round, this room serves as both a living room and a workplace for Xenophilius. It has a labyrinthine like appearance with piles of books and papers covering every surface. The ceiling is dotted with small delicately made models of creatures that flap their wings or snap their jaws. Xenophilius' printing press is also located here, which prints out copies of his magazine "The Quibbler", as well as a stone bust of Rowena Ravenclaw wearing a bizarre headdress made by Xenophilius. The room has a window, and various pieces of furniture. Luna's Room Luna's room is on the next floor above the living room, it has one window, and a pale blue carpet. Her ceiling is painted with pictures drawn by Luna, titled in golden ink creating a circle around each of them and connecting them together. These pictures while not moving seem to breathe. By her bed, Luna has a picture of her and Selene. Luna also has a wardrobe in the room. |
# 12, Grimmauld Place -- House of Black Ancestral Home
Entrance: When someone who knows of its existence and is allowed to see it approaches the entrance, the houses number 11 and 13 seem to have been shoved out of the way as number 12 appears between them. A set of front steps lead to a door with a silver twisted serpent as its knocker with no keyholes, handles or anything else to indicate that it's actually a door. It opens only by magic, and the doorbell sounds like a loud clang that will wake anyone inside the house.
The Ground Floor
The front door opens into a long hallway, lit with gas lamps and a large overhead chandelier. It's a Grand Entryway, complete with ornate portraits on the walls. Of all the portraits, the most prominent is an enormous portrait of Walburga Black, stuck to the wall via a Permanent Sticking Charm. Much of the decor in the entry hall is made of serpents, though there is also an umbrella stand made from the severed leg of a troll. On one side of the entry hall sits a Dining Room, where a dresser holds the Black family china, complete with the family crest. Basement
A door at the far end of the entry hall, a set of narrow stone stairs leads to the basement, and the house's Kitchen. Though less ornate than the floors above, the kitchen is still a large, cavernous room with a large fireplace at the far end. Iron pots and pans hang from the ceiling above, and a long wooden table sits in the center of the room, large enough to fit a couple dozen people around it for a meal. In the basement, just off the kitchen, is a dark pantry, large enough for two people to stand in comfortably; and another cupboard off the kitchen houses the boiler for the house, as well as Kreacher's den. Other than these two small rooms, however, the kitchen seems to fill the entire basement - making it quite a large room. |
First Floor
At the end of the entrance hall, facing the door, a grand staircase leads to the upper floors. The wall on the stair is decorated with a row of shrunken house-elf heads, mounted on the wall on plaques.
There are at least three rooms:
Bedroom and Bathroom#1: Where Hermione and Ginny once slept.
Bedroom and Bathroom#2
The Drawing Room: Exquisite even in comparison to the other rooms, the drawing room has large windows overlooking the street in front of the house, a large fireplace flanked by two ornate glass-fronted cabinets (containing various rare objects for showcasing), and an entire wall covered with a tapestry of the Black family tree.
Second Floor
Bedroom and Bathroom#3
Bedroom and Bathroom#4: The room has two twin beds and a wardrobe, lofty ceilings, and had a doorknob in the shape of a serpent. On the wall is a portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black, and in the corner is a wastebasket that coughs when owl droppings are placed in it.
From the landing on the second floor, it is possible to look down over the bannisters and see the top of anyone's head who is standing in the front entrance hall.
Third Floor
A cupboard.
Bedroom and Bathroom#5: Molly once slept here.
Bedroom and Bathroom#6: Fred and George once slept here.

Fifth Floor
Contains only two doors: one leading to Sirius's room, and the other to Regulus's. Sirius's Room: It's beautiful, with carved wooden headboard on the large bed, tall windows obscured by long velvet curtains, and fine wall hangings and furniture. A grand chandelier hangs on the ceiling over the bed. Sirius decked his room out in Gryffindor colors and large Gryffindor banners, and posters of bikes and bikini clad muggle-girls. There is also a picture of the Marauder's on his wall, standing arm in arm and laughing. A luxurious, thick carpet rests on the floor, usually littered with unorganized mess by Sirius. Regulus's Room: Marked by a sign on the door - "Do Not Enter Without the Express Permission of Regulus Arcturus Black". It's beautiful, with carved wooden headboards on the beds, velvet curtains, and fine wall hangings and furniture. Slightly smaller than Sirius's room, the decor highlights Slytherin, pure-blood heritage, with a Black family crest painted over the bed and newspaper clippings about Voldemort donning the walls. |
